Pet Peeve # 173: Safety goggles that fog up when I wear a dust mask with them. I like to wear a dust mask when making sawdust, but I commonly have to choose between shielding my eyes and protecting my lungs, which is a horrible choice. I have at least five pairs of safety goggles floating around my shop, and every single one of them fogs up quickly when I wear a dust mask at the same time. Then I was browsing around and saw these DeWALT safety goggles that claimed to be anti-fog, and I knew I had to try them. I was a bit skeptical, but I generally find that DeWALT produces quality gear, and for only a few bucks more than the cost of typical junky goggles, the risk seemed relatively low (even for a tightwad like me).
Verdict. They work great, and I love them. The clarity is exceptional, and the field of view is wide and unobstructed. The initial scratch resistance seems decent, but only time will tell. But for now, this was money well spent. The only downside is they don’t breathe well, and my face gets pretty hot when wearing them, but I view that as a hardship that I am willing to endure in exchange for the ability to simultaneously protect my lungs and eyes.
