A good book, a tall glass of iced tea, and the gentle swaying motion of a shady hammock on the patio, next to the pool, or out in the yard. Sounds like paradise, doesn’t it? With a few basic tools and some inexpensive materials, any woodworker with a free weekend can create a place to relax and catch a few winks.

This easy-to-build hammock frame project calls primarily for straight cuts and requires only basic construction techniques. Made entirely of straight-grain Douglas fir, the frame is not only sturdy, comfortable, and safe, but it’s attractive enough to blend nicely with any landscaping. Designed to fit a standard-size hammock sling, the completed project measures 16 feet long by 4 feet wide.

What will the weight limit be? And, what parts need to beef up the limit to around 400lbs.

Looks like a great way to make a couple hundred bucks in a couple hours! People here in Upstate New York are going to love these. Thanks for a great idea! Simple to make and classy looking. I could see doing it with a glue up of the fir with cedar in layers like a cutting board and selling them for 1500$. I'm really glad I took the bait and became a paid member!
