Chair Making Essentials – 34 minutes
Chairs can be challenging to build. They take a lot of abuse, so need rock solid joinery. Mortise and tenon joints make this chair a piece of furniture that will last a life time. You’ll learn tricks for laying out the joint that are chair-specific, increasing the strength of the joint. When making multiple chairs it’s important to make them all identical. You’ll see how to create and use a story stick that simplifies laying out the joints, and will also be used as a pattern for flush trimming to ensure all the parts are identical. Finally, the challenge of upholstering the seat. We bring in an expert to show you tricks and tips for producing a wrinkle free seat.
Dresser Essentials – 83 minutes
Simple case construction, dadoes and rabbets, is used to create the carcase of this beautiful classic dresser. Made from alder, this is a piece that will last for generations. You’ll learn how to dimension graduated drawers, create lock joints for the drawer boxes on the table saw, and install full extension drawer slides. You’ll also learn to build a face frame with pocket hole joinery, and how to successfully band the edges of man-made material to create the dresser top.
