How would you do a biscuit if you dont have the tool for it?

So let's remove this work piece, this shelf, and then see what we're using to support it. So it's a jig with a nice perpendicular fence that's solid. Now, if you've ever tried to biscuit join a piece free hand, you can see how our rocks back and forth. Now, if we put it up against this fence, it's solid. Now, if we take a look at the bottom of the biscuit joiner, this is where it's going to register on the table. So when we slide it back and forth like that, we'll get a nice smooth action. Now here's my two marks where I'm going to be putting the biscuits. So if I hold it firmly, line it up, plunge it in, and then I'll let the tool come to a stop. As I pull it up, I'll get a perfect biscuit every time. And it's going to be up from the bottom, that same amount.
