Description

Dave Munkittrick talks about why his 23 gauge micro pinner is one of his favorite woodworking tools. The nails are so small you don’t even need to cover the holes when using woods like oak, and they’re fantastic for small moldings on cabinets and bookshelves.

One of my favorite tools in my woodworking arsenal is my little bitty 23 gauge micro pin nailer. Sometimes they're called micro brads, but they're the smallest airgun you can get. And I find myself reaching for this far more often than my larger 16 gauge gun. Although it certainly has its purpose as well. But the nail holes are so small on this, it's real easy.

And sometimes you don't even have to fill the hole at all. It just disappears, especially if you're using an open grain wood like Oak. So for assembly, when I don't want my parts to squirm around under clamp pressure with the glue, I'll use this just to tack things in place. Small moldings on a cabinet, I'll use this to fasten the moldings on. And I'll give you an idea just how small this nail hole is.

There was one shot into some Alder there. That's my nail hole. Pretty easy to cover that up if you have to. Here's a few more, Even if you have a series of them you can just see how small that nail hole is. And that's why I love my 23 gauge.
